If you’re looking for a midsize crossover that can seat eight in three rows, we think you’re going to like the 2019 Toyota Highlander. The driver and passengers will appreciate the Highlander’s quiet, comfortable cabin that affords plenty of cargo space. Customers at the Toyota dealer in Nampa report they like the long list of standard features they get with the Highlander.

The 2019 Toyota Highlander comes in six trim levels: LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited and Limited Platinum. Buyers can choose optional second-row captain’s chairs at dealers like Toyota Nampa, which reduce seating capacity from eight to seven.

The LE trim is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 185 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, teamed to a six-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. The other trims get a standard 3.5-liter V6 powerplant that develops 295 hp and 263 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. The V6 is offered as an option on the LE. Buyers who choose the V6 can take advantage of the available all-wheel-drive system.

Reaction from the automotive press has been positive. Kelley Blue Book wrote: “The 2019 Toyota Highlander is among the most recommendable crossover SUVs for busy families. … the Highlander is roomy, versatile and easy to drive and live with. … Toyota’s midsize SUV remains a strong competitor to the Honda Pilot, not to mention newer competitors like the Volkswagen Atlas and Subaru Ascent.”

Standard features on the LE include 18-inch alloy wheels, black side rocker panels, a height-adjustable driver seat, AC in the rear rows, heated mirrors and a de-icer for the windshield wipers. Also standard is a six-speaker CD audio system, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, five USB ports and a rearview camera. Buyers also get Toyota’s Safety Sense, a suite of safety features that includes automatic emergency braking, lane departure intervention, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control and forward collision mitigation.

The LE Plus adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a height-adjustable power liftgate, foglights, deluxe upholstery and trim, a flip-up rear window, a power-adjustable driver seat, climate control with three zones, HD radio, satellite radio, a high-res 8-inch touchscreen and a host of smartphone apps.

The XLE gets leather upholstery in the first and second rows, heated front seats, a power-adjustable passenger seat, roof rails, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, sunshades for the second row, Driver Easy Speak, navigation, blind-spot monitoring, a sunroof, keyless entry and ignition, rear cross-traffic alert, an upgraded instrument panel and a 110-volt power outlet.

The SE gets many of the features from the XLE and adds 19-inch wheels, black exterior accents and black-painted wheels, special suspension tuning, exclusive interior trim and LED running lights.

The Limited starts with the features of the XLE trim and adds special 19-inch wheels, LED running lights, chrome-trimmed LED foglights, driver-seat memory, heated and ventilated front seats, rear parking sensors, heated second-row captain’s chairs, a rear cargo cover and a premium JBL stereo system with 12 speakers.

The Limited Platinum trim comes with a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, the chrome-trimmed LED foglights from the Limited, automatic wipers, a panoramic sunroof, the Safety Connect emergency telematics system, front parking sensors and a 360-degree parking camera.
