Toyota Dealer Serving Caldwell
Buyers looking for a three-row family crossover have many models to choose from. And the vehicle that heralded the advent of this segment, the Toyota Highlander, is still in fighting form with a redesign for 2020. The fourth-generation Highlander pleases customers at the Caldwell area Toyota dealer, thanks to many enhancements and features that weren’t available on last year’s Highlander. We think the 2020 Toyota Highlander is destined to be a popular model.
Among the changes for 2010 include a new platform. According to the Toyota dealer near Caldwell, the 2020 Toyota Highlander sits on a new platform designed to deliver a better ride and make the Highlander even more nimble. The Highlander gains some 2.4 inches, which provides more cargo space and third-row legroom. You’ll notice the Highlander’s new sleeker appearance and additional sculpted body panels. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard. New optional features include an advanced torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen.
The automotive press continues to give the 2020 Toyota Highlander great reviews, with Autoblog writing: “One of the original and most popular three-row family crossovers has been completely redesigned, and if you liked the previous version, chances are you’ll like the incrementally improved 2020 Toyota Highlander. It’s well-equipped with generous safety equipment and entertainment features, and is available with the best fuel economy by far thanks to its unique hybrid offering.”
The 2020 Toyota Highlander comes in five trim levels: L, LE, XLE, Limited and Platinum. All models are offered with front- or all-wheel drive. Last year’s base four-cylinder engine has been replaced by the formerly optional 3.5-liter V6 that develops 295 hp and 263 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. EPA-estimated fuel economy is unavailable as of this writing, however, Toyota estimates the Highlander will return 22 mpg combined for models with front-wheel drive.
The Highlander can still be had with the hybrid powertrain, which comprises a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that works alongside two electric motors to put out a combined 240 horsepower. Hybrid Highlanders are outfitted with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
The 2020 Highlander gets an updated interior to keep the driver and passengers comfortable. The L and LE trims seat eight with second- and third-row bench seats. Optional second-row captain’s chairs are offered on the higher trim levels; choosing the captain’s chairs reduces seating capacity to seven. Available features include a Wi-Fi hotspot as well as a JBL stereo system with 11 speakers.
Standard safety features for the 2020 Toyota Highlander include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-tracing assist, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams and road sign identification and alert. All trim levels other than the base L get standard blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning.
Neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS has crash-tested the 2020 Toyota Highlander as of this writing. However, the 2019 Highlander received outstanding scores from both organizations, and we expect the 2020 model to receive similar ratings. The NHTSA gave the 2019 Highlander five-out-of-five stars for overall safety and the IIHS named the 2019 Highlander a Top Safety Pick.
